Blessing Artist
Bb Cornet
A genuine Vintage Blessing Artist Cornet
S/N 438XX
This puts this horn as produced around 1947.
Built when Blessing was making some really great instruments.
The Super Artists were of course made common by Clifford Brown and Blue Note recordings in the early 50's.
This one is not a Super - but an Artist.
The major differences between the two are the cylindrical valve block and the lack of nickel trim
Apart from that they are very similar.
They both have the underslung 3rd valve ring - which feels comfortable and is easy to get used to
The tome is slightly warmer on the standard artist and projects a little less also.
(More of a fluffier diffused sound)
Horns has been given a quick clean and lubricated - it's good to go
Plays nice and valve action is very good.
Recommend using Hetman #3 Classic oil with this if you can get your hands on some.
Condition:
- Compression is good
- Good valve action with no sticking. All slides move easily and smoothly.
- Cosmetically, the horn looks good (pictures actually make it look nicer than it is) - it has wear in certain spots -but the lacquer has turned the desirable honey comb brown
- A few pings here and there - nothing major
- One small indentation on Bell bow and another as bell enters 1st valve.
- Bell looks like it has seen some damage in the past on the bell flare - few ripples here and there
This is a good example of a horn with some original wear that's 54 years old and ready to play another decade or so at least.
